Heading back into the UP from the Books and Such Retreat in Monterey after a brief detour to Crystal River, Florida to help my brother and sister go through Daddy’s belongings in preparation for selling his little Florida house. It’s one of a kind, built with his own hands (and my brother’s). He designed it himself, even building a scale model before attempting the real thing.

Karl and Sally had done a lot of sorting and hauling ahead of time so when Mike, my son, Zack and Sally’s son, Stephen arrived, they tackled the heavy lifting. We ate simple but good meals, didn’t snack (too busy), sorted, remembered and chose keepsakes for the family members who had to stay home with busy toddlers and babies. We owe the younger generation many thanks for making this weekend work date happen.

We are sore and tired and at least a little emotional. There is still work left to do but we were out of time. Mike will drive back down soon to bring Grandy’s old workbench up north along with 2 bins of things I wanted (or couldn’t bear to throw away).

It was good to be together as a family again.
