Heading back into the UP from the Books and Such Retreat in Monterey after a brief detour to Crystal River, Florida to help my brother and sister go through Daddy’s belongings in preparation for selling his little Florida house. It’s one of a kind, built with his own hands (and […]

Following Jesus, Thoughts, Writing No Comments

Well, the Hutchmoot is over. That perfect doxology echoed in the Church of the Redeemer ending the weekend and the little taste of heaven that it was. Hutchmoot was community, beauty and vulnerability. God smiling on us, encouraging all of our tiny (and not so tiny) stuff. Excellent books, spectacular […]

Fall is here in the U.P. never mind the date on the calendar. You may know we have lake effect snow up here. It follows, I guess that we have lake effect rain as well towards the end of summer and into autumn, a harbinger of the storms of November. […]

Commuting in the Northwoods, The NICU No Comments

It smells like beauty here. I rolled the window down an inch and let the wind mess up my hair. I just spent a half hour with a flat iron fighting the frizz but I don’t care much. The dirt and mushroom odor slid in over the glass while a […]

Forest Commuter Poetry   Not Fast Enough   Two small quick birds flared in my headlights (finches, I think). I hoped for them and felt no impact. Drove on to town and parked to get my coffee. I forgot to to check the grille.     I Brake for Deer […]

About Suzanne

Suzanne is a writer and speaker whose first published works were for professional nursing journals. She wrote a book of devotions for nurses; followed by The Sheep of His Hand, a book about following Jesus, based on years of caring for and observing her sheep on the family farm in Illinois.

For the last three years, Suzanne has written for Guideposts’ popular devotion series, Mornings with Jesus 2015, 2016, and 2017.

After twenty years as a shepherd and twenty-seven years caring for tiny and sick newborns as an RN and Nurse Practitioner, Suzanne and her husband, Mike, moved to a cabin in the Hiawatha Forest in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where she continues to spin yarns, as well as spin actual yarn from the wool of her beloved sheep. She knits, weaves, and pursues an outdoor lifestyle in the boreal forest near the southern shore of Lake Superior. A pair of loons and the occasional trumpeter swan do their best to distract Suzanne from her writing.

She’s not falling for it.
